See below a list of recommended materials you will need for the course
Pen Holder – straight or oblique is fine. If you are a lefty you can use a straight pen holder. If you are a leftie and want to use an oblique, make sure to buy the proper one for you – the metallic flange should be on the right side of the pen stiff. You can provide a pen holder from any arts & crafts store, but you can also order them from our online shop.
Nib – pointed and flexible. For the beginning a Zebra G, Nikko G, Leonardt Crown or Leonardt DP40 will do a great job. I personally like best the DP40, but then you must test for yourself to see which one is right for you. You can provide a pen holder from any arts & crafts store, but you can also order them from our online shop.
Paper for printing the guide sheets – any smooth paper that takes ink well, without bleeding is fine. Usually 100g high quality printing paper should be fine, but then again, you will have to test. HP Premium32 lb would be a good option or you could also use tracing paper or marker paper above your guide sheets printed on any regular paper. If proper paper is a challenge, you can provide our Calligraphy Practice Pads (both for lowercase and uppercase letters) with instructions and traceable letters, which are the same as the downloadable practice sheets in the course.
Ink – you can start with a simple black ink (Speedball Super Black India ink, Winsor & Newton, Sumi ink are just fine). I always love working with gouaches, as they have great coverage and the letters are colored and mat. They are thicker and they never bleed, no matter on what paper you write on. Our inks are available in our online shop and they are also included in our kits.
You can find all these in our Calligraphy Kits
Laptop/Computer & Internet Connection – this course is available only on the Internet, so using an Internet browser and having Internet connection is a must. Recording/downloading/sharing the videos is strictly prohibited.
Printer – all the downloadable materials like handouts, worksheets, guide sheets should be printed for you to work upon and practice.
